Society of Professional Marine Auditors

      2/22/2006

The Society of Professional Marine Auditors, (SPMA), was recently formed to fulfill the need for an organization that would set standards and provide educational opportunities for Marine Auditors and Inspectors. Membership is in four categories, with Professional Members being accredited by the SPMA Board of Regents, following strict guidelines as set forth in the By-Laws and on their website.

The organization has worked closely with the State of Louisiana Technical College, at its Young Memorial Campus, to develop specialized courses which will go far toward qualifying Professional Members who have proper background experience and expertise. These courses include such subjects as firefighting and safety equipment, marine security, vessel construction and nomenclature, dynamic positioning familiarization, offshore safety, vessel stability and documentation, navigation equipment, and crew requirements. The SPMA is now taking applications for members in all four categories: Professional, Corporate, Sponsor, and Associate. Details and membership forms are available on the website.
