Software for Shipyard

      3/16/1999

Parametric Technology Corporation announced on 24 February 1999 that it has received a three-year, $8.2 million order for Pro/ENGINEER and Windchill software and services from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., LTD. (HHI), Ulsan, Korea. The contract marks the first time in Korea's shipbuilding history that an Internet-based product information management technology will be applied to constructing major vessels.
The contract also is unique in that HHI will assist PTC with the development of a dedicated commercial shipbuilding solution based primarily on Pro/ENGINEER and Windchill. HHI, which is one of the leading shipbuilders in the world, plans to implement an internationally recognized, standards-based IT infrastructure with its use of Pro/ENGINEER for mechanical design automation and Windchill for enterprise information management. The goal is to improve the shipbuilding process by allowing those involved in design, manufacturing and management to easily share the shipbuilding-related information that exists within the organization.
Parametric Technology Corporation, founded in 1985 and headquartered in Waltham, Mass. (USA) develops, markets and supports integrated product development and lifecycle management solutions.
