A licence to sell and market Langh Ship’s innovative systems for shipping processed steel products has widened MacGREGOR’s portfolio as a cargo flow solutions provider. MacGREGOR has been involved in the development of the cradle tweendecks, which have already been fitted to four general cargo carriers owned by Langh Ship: Christina, Sofia, Aila and Linda. With this solution the steel coils can be stowed on these decks higher up in the vessel than before, resulting in a lower GM and thus smoother movement in heavy seas.

An additional advantage of this concept is that cargoes, which are high in volume but low in weight, such as steel pipes for instance, can be stowed in the empty space beneath the pontoons. Other innovative Langh’s products include three different types of special-purpose containers. Two of these are low containers, which are designed with either a cradle bottom for steel coils or a flat bottom for other products. 20ft container has been developed with long sides that open up completely for easier handling of heavy products. In addition, the products include plate cassettes. All of these products have been designed to enable a smooth transport chain from the steel factory to the end-users, which results in decreased loading times and lower risk of damage.
