Swedish Coastguard contract

British Aerospace Systems and Equipment (BASE) has been awarded a contract by the Swedish Coastguard to supply surveillance equipment to upgrade the capabilities of one of its in-service patrol vessels. The coastguard has also taken an option to purchase a further three systems for installation on to existing customs vessels.
BASE will supply and integrate a suite of sensors including long-range high performance thermal imaging camera, low light/daylight TV and image intensifier, all mounted on a stabilised marine platform.
In addition to routine marine patrol and surveillance operations, it is planned that the BASE-equipped vessel will be used for the monitoring of oil pollution. The Swedish Coastguard will be the first authority to use such a system for environmental protection in addition to surveillance and search and rescue operations around its coastline. Several other Northern European countries are currently evaluating this type of equipment for a range of applications.
