TankRadar for LNG Carrier

Saab TankRadar Custody Transfer System was ordered for LNG/C Southern, owned by Argent Marine Services, Inc. of Incline Village, NV, USA. This is the first order for the radar based tank gauging and custody transfer system for a LNG carrier.

The functions of the Saab TankRadar system include;
- Gauging of level, temperature and vapor pressure in six cargo tanks
- Computation and correction of level for influence from temperature, vapor pressure and trim/list
- Calculation of cargo liquid volume and total loaded or discharged volume
- Generation of custody transfer reports

The LNG/C Southern has six cargo tanks of membrane type with a total capacity of 126.500 m3.
Saab TankRadar replaces an old outdated nitrogen bubbler type secondary gauging system on LNG/C Southern. Saab gauges can be installed using the same tank penetration as the old system was using, thereby avoiding modifications to the tank dome. With the Saab TankRadar gauges installed on top of the tanks and with no parts inside the tanks that can break down or degrade, eventual service to the radar gauges can be performed with tanks remaining in operation.
