Technologically Advanced Warship

The U.S. Navy's newest ship has been described by U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy during the commissioning ceremony as "the best of the past, present and future of the Navy and the country in the new fight against terrorists around the world." USS Preble (DDG 88) is the newest in a series of advanced Aegis guided missile destroyers built for the Navy by Northrop Grumman at its Ship Systems sector in Pascagoula (Mississippi).

USS Preble (DDG 88) is the 38th ship of the DDG 51 Aegis destroyer program and the 17th built by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. The ship is the fifth of the revised Flight IIA ships with hangars for two SH-60B/F helicopters and an enlarged flight deck. Following DDG 88, Northrop Grumman has contracts to produce 11 additional Aegis destroyers, with six of those ships in various stages of production.
