Twist-lock Proves Market Wants It

Since its launch at the end of 1996, a total of one million pieces of the first fully symmetrical semi-automatic twistlock, the MacGREGOR Conver CV-20, have either been ordered or delivered by the Group's Securing Division. Recent orders include those to supply OSHA-compliant equipment packages to 31 new ships on order in Korea, resulting in a total of 340 ships equipped with the CV-20.

MacGREGOR's new two-wire semi-automatic twistlock has proven itself more than capable of high levels of market penetration within a very short time. The record order levels have also been achieved with the help of the introduction of MacGREGOR's new fixing cone, the AFC-1L, which is an additional, modified version of the MacGREGOR-Conver AFC-1. All 20ft ISO-gap lockers, including the AFC-1 fixing cone, lock the corner castings in the longitudinal direction, but at the ends of the stow they occupy the container sockets which are otherwise needed for lashing rods. The new AFC-1L allows rods to be inserted into the bottom corner castings of adjacent containers.

A series of 10 2,500 TEU container ships being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea for Bernhard Schulte, will be the first ships to be fitted with MacGREGOR's AFC-1L fixing cone. Delivery of these vessels begins at the end of this year and continues through 2001.
