Two-Speed Gears

Two-Speed Gears

Two-speed gears are used mainly in ships with various performance requirements, the traditional application areas being fishing and trawling. REINTJES has developed a two-speed gearbox specially for these applications with two optional gear reductions between input and output shaft, making it possible to operate the propeller closer to optimal pitch.

The first gear (overdrive) provides optimal transmission for proceeding to and from the fishing grounds, while the second gear reduces engine speed for trawling operations.
The components used are exclusively from the WAF series, which has been used with great success all over the world since 1982. ZWAF offers the following advantages:

  • Lower fuel costs, as the engine can be operated in its optimal performance curve in both gears
  • Reduced engine service intervals, as the engine attains a much lower exhaust gas temperature in both gears
  • Approx. 100% increase in trawl speed as well as greater trawl strength.
