Unmanned Untethered Submersible Technology

The 12th International Symposium on Unmanned Untethered Submersible Technology (UUST), to be held in August 26-29 in Durham, seeks to provide a mechanism for the exchange of information among members of the research, development and user communities involved in the development of autonomous underwater systems. The organizers are soliciting technical papers and have set the abstract deadline at March 1, 2001.

UUST is a series of symposia focused on unmanned untethered submersible technology. Historically, these symposia have attracted large international participation; it is common for 30% of the attendees to be from outside the United States. The broad spectrum of participants results in a unique educational experience for senior researchers as well as students interested in this evolving technology. Technical areas to be covered include Applications of AUV Technology, Autonomous Manipulation, Bio-engineering, Communications, Distributed Control, Energy, Guidance and Control Systems, Hydrodynamics, Intelligent Systems, Modeling, Navigation, etc. A student paper competition has beenestablished in an effort to encourage and foster the participation of undergraduate and graduate students in the research areas related to unmanned untethered submersible technology.
