Virtual Engine Room
Virtual Engine Room

Virtual Engine Room is a PC-based engine room simulator. Although very compact it includes all the vital systems that can be found in a ship’s engine room. This simulator has two unique features i.e. Computer Aided Assessment designated for a competency evaluation and a Checklist Support for an individual training.

VER is a highly realistic simulator for ship’s engine room training which can also be used as a low cost introductory simulator. The mathematical model simulates a typical ship’s engine room with a 2-stroke, low speed engine, its auxiliary systems, power plant and a steam system. The user interface includes actual all virtual controls and alarms and creates very realistic environment.

The mimic diagrams with active valves, pump status indicators, tank level indicators and selected digital gauges enable engine room operation and monitoring.

Multichannel digitised sound provides realistic ships’ engine room feel. The sound effects include: engine sound correlated with engine speed, the sound of a diesel generator starting and running, open indicator valve sound, alarm and machine telegraph buzzers. Additionally the volume level for all sound channels can be freely selected according to personal preferences. The integrated and computer aided assessment (CAA) is fully integrated with a simulator and can be used for both, a quick check while operating the engine room or for competency verification. The unambiguous penalty points methodology and clear pass/fail rules enables the comparison of results achieved in different training centres by different students.

VER has been developed in compliance with STCW Code Section A-1/12 & Section B-1/12 and ISM Code Section 6 & Section 8.
