CIMarE was incorporated by Federal Charter in April 1976 to advance and promote in Canada the science and practice of marine engineering, naval engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, marine electrics and electronics, control engineering.

• The Canadian Institute offers a ready solution to Canada's very mobile marine engineering community. Branches are located across Canada in major centres from St. John's to Victoria.
• Branches offer regular technical meetings and various social events. Each year a national conference and technical exposition, MARI-TECH, is organized by one of the Branches.
• The Institute is a learned society that speaks as a body on behalf of all those working in Canada's marine engineering field.

Institute activities from coast to coast are of interest and benefit to naval architects, ship's systems engineers, marine electrics and electronics engineers and those involved in offshore activities and in the marine support industries.
