Grenada Ports Authority established by Act#14 of 1978; started operations in 1981. Responsible for the administration and operations of all Grenada's seaports including the ports of St. George's, Grenville, Hillsborough & Tyrrel Bay in Carriacou.

  • Prickley Bay - yachting marina; St. Davids Harbour - private yachting marina; Oil terminals at Grand Mal and Queens Park in St. George's and at Tyrrel Bay in Carriacou; St. George's is main port.
  • Grenada a significant tourist destination. 260,000 (prelim) passengers in 1999. Recent port expansion to 1100 feet of berth; 8 acre container park; suitable container handling equipment. Water sold.
  • With effect January 2000 the Authority takes over cargo-handling labour arrangements. Handling rates generally on a unit basis except for break-bulk cargo which is worked on an hourly basis.
Authority is also responsible for administration of the Grenada Shipping Act #47 of 1994 and thus administrates the shipping register. Jurisdiction also extends to the licensing and control of yacht movements under Yachting Act #38 of 1998.
