The laboratory is a leading centre for research and development in subsea technology. Our main areas of work are in subsea robotics, unmanned underwater vehicles, through water communication, sonar design and underwater computer vision.

• The OSL has built and operated remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Currently there are two operational research vessels and one under development. Innovation has always been the principal ingredie
• The OSL collaborates closely with the offshore, marine science and defence communities, with sponsorship from UK Governement, the European Union and Industry.
• The OSL forms part of the Marine Technology Centre, with broader interests in petroleum reservoir engineering, dynamics and loading of offshore structures and horizontal well technology.
