Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors. The current worldwide membership totals near 500 Fellows, Members, Associate Members and Affiliates who provide a range of expertise covering the full scope of Marine Consultancy.
Objectives: The Society's founders (in 1920) recognised the need to cater for the common needs and interests of Surveyors. These objectives remain the same today and include:
The encouragement of improved methjods of surveying and drawing up of reports in line with maritime developments and technology. To promote and foster in commercial circles a higher sense of the
importance of ship and engione surveys and to encourage a greater degree of efficiency in those persons so engaged. To provide opportunities for discussion between members and facilities for the
reading of papers, the delivery of lectures and for the acquisition and dissemination by other means of useful information connected with the profession.
The Society is an Approved Certifying Authority for the UK maritime & Coastguard Agency.
