The Wolfson Unit for Marine Technology and Industrial Aerodynamics is part of the School of Engineering Science in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Southampton.

  • The unit operates a consultancy service in, ship design, yacht design, small craft design, naval architecture, marine technology and industrial aerodynamics.
  • The Unit's prime expertise lies in experimental and theoretical approaches to hydrodynamics and aerodynamics, stability, hull structures and marine systems.
  • The unit is staffed by engineers with over 125 man years of experience in vessel design and performance. Since 1968 some 700 models, power and sail, have been tank and wind tunnel tested.
The Unit has a world wide reputation for sailing yacht and performance power craft testing, as well as being involved on international bodies concerned with vessel safety, and helping to draft national stability regulations.
