The National Organization of SAR & Maritime Safety of the aquatic spaces of Venezuela, ONSA, is looking for anyones's opinion about the Magellan GSC100 that provides two ways comunication via email. We are considering the posibility to install the system as a complementary comunication SAR system for Venezuela and the Caribbean.

GSC 100 is a fine communicator for recreational uses but not for safety at sea.
GSC 100 now costs $1295. for just twice the cost you can obtain
Inmarsat "C" which provides
fax, telex and internet messaging, plus receives free safetyNet broadcasts and has imediate distress call
capability. In addition the system can be polled (Tracked).
Non GMDSS system $3300, GMDSS version $7500.

One Questions, at June 2004 ,the security of ORBCOMM is in discussions to send/receive data across protocol SMTP, its vulnerable and existing technicals for break this, modyfing header e-mails, similary at e-mail anonymous or phantom.
What methods existing actuallity for preventions this anomaly??
