why is the exh temp to the inlet of the turbocharger higher than the cylinder outlet temp?

Good question. Always my impression was that there´s still some combustion happening in the exhaust manifold even with a perfect timing, i.e. not all the fuel is burnt inside the cylinder.

the exhaust gases pass at a certain velocity from the cylinders to the exhaust manifold where the velocity of the gas drops. the energy (kinetic) gets converted in the form of heat energy and hence the temp. at the inlet of t/c is higher
