We have a problem with 7S- 50MC-C engine 127 rpm, 11060KW. The engine is running smoothly for last two years but the oil leakage from stuffing box is excessive about 80 ltrs/ day. The stuffing box is overhauled but the problem still persist.

We had a similar problem on the same engine i.e. 7S 50MC-C. The solution came from the yard suggesting that the fourth ring (from top) which has alternate grooves on the bottom to be replaced by a plain bottom ring (which is a new design by B&W) and our problem was solved. For indenting the new ring a new part no. was given (better to mention the description of the ring i.e. "without groove at the bottom" along with the indent)

In addition to Jigar's suggestion, also check the condition of piston rods, whether they are shining smooth or have some marks.

The piston rods are smooth, there are no marks. The clearances of stuffing box rings well within limit.
